A fall accident recently occurred during an assembly operation, in which on-site personnel instructed the driver to unload the cargo without using a ramp, on the grounds that it did not involve unloading from a great height (the height was just under two meters). The fall from the trailer to ground level resulted in minor injuries for the driver, but it could have ended much worse. This damage could have been avoided if a ramp had been used.
We also have a documented incident from another recent occasion in which the driver was asked to hook up a load at a great height (over two meters) without the truck being able to position itself next to the existing safety equipment (load-securing device). At that moment, the driver refused to shift gears.
We urge all drivers to question any instructions that call for safety equipment not to be used; if you are unsure about the applicable rules, please contact your traffic control center. |
